Destino

Light grey castrated male

Destino is a castrated four-year-old male alpaca well suited to a working role as a livestock guardian. He is naturally alert and observant, often the first to notice unusual movement in the paddock, and has actively chased foxes away from stock.

Destino is best placed with sheep, goats or poultry, where his confidence and vigilance can be put to good use. He is not suitable as a pet or companion animal for close human interaction, as he is bold, self-assured and does not have strong personal boundaries with people. For this reason, he is recommended only for experienced or well-prepared owners seeking a functional guardian rather than a hands-on animal.

If you do not already own alpacas, Destino will need to be sold with one or more of our other castrated male companions. Alpacas are herd animals and guardian males perform best when kept in a minimum of two, with three being ideal for welfare, stability and effective guarding behaviour.

Ideal home:

  • Working farm or rural property with sheep, goats and/or poultry

  • Owners seeking a livestock guardian

  • Secure fencing and appropriate shelter

  • Will be kept with other alpacas (minimum of two; three preferred)

  • Owners willing to meet routine care requirements, including shearing, vaccination, vitamin D supplementation, additional hay, health checks and ongoing management

  • Alpacas can live up to 20-25 years. They are a long-term commitment .
